Tang Yuan, Still Not Old

HAPPY DONG ZHI and HAPPY A YEAR OLDER!
it was believed that after eating tang yuan, we are a year older and a year wiser. so that simply explains why tang yuans are disliked by elderly because they refuse to grow any older. hahaha. just some ridiculous justification of my own.
anyway, tang yuan festival (dong zhi @ winter solstice) simply signifies the arrival of winter in the Chinese calendar. pretty much like an occasion for family gatherings and reunion by having yummy-licious food and of course tang yuan, the glutinous rice ball!!
i celebrated tang yuan since i was a kid as i was from a rather chinese oriented family. i really enjoyed doing tang yuan, rolling the flour into round balls and doing odd shapes with the leftover.
but this year tang yuan celebration in my home was pretty solemn as my sis is not back from melbourne and my dad is off to singapore. just me and mum.but i still adore mum's tang yuan and especially the ginger syrup!!! super super yummy!!!!!!
